The official opening of the club premises in Lordship Lane took place on the 1st December, 1886, when a meeting was held in the large meeting room under the presidency of Morgan Howard, Q.C. Where the club began it's career with a membership of 200 which increased to 300 during the first year.

Great strides made by the club led to the committee in 1888 to look for more commodious premises and through the generosity of Sir John Blundell Maple, the present premises, Clumber House, East Dulwich Grove were acquired. They were occupied in November 1888 and almost immediately the Small Hall and Concert Hall were erected.

In 1912 the club passed through a critical financial period, the loyal support of the members came forward with financial assistance. In those anxious days of the war, the club maintained an untiring effort to be of the greatest possible assistance to the Government.

Although the club started out as purely a club of political nature, the social side of club life was soon in evidenc. Being fitted out with Billiards, Smoking, Reading and Games rooms.

The bowling green was laid down in 1889 and bowls continues to be one of the most enjoyable features of the social life of the club.

The Dulwich Constitutional Club with it's invaluable support of it's members, continues the long heritage of one London's oldest best clubs.
